THE DRAWING SCIENTIST, scientific illustrator and communicator

knowledge through images

Scientific illustration and communication
by a scientist
tailor-made
accessible to all audiences

Are you a company, healthcare professional, research laboratory or cultural organisation working in the fields of biology, medicine or pharmacology?
As both a scientist and an illustrator, I’m the facilitator who can turn your concepts into images.

my portfolio

Computer graphics, diagrams for scientific articles, illustrations for books and scientific publications, covers for newspapers, visuals for social networks.
But also logo and web design, branding and design of educational games.

“It was an absolute pleasure working with Veronica on creating illustrations for an upcoming article!
She quickly grasped our request – designing animal illustrations representing different taxonomic classes – and helped us refine our needs, delivering results that perfectly met, and even exceeded, our expectations.
On top of that, she suggested ways to integrate the illustrations into the final figure for an even better presentation.
Her work is both fast and of high-quality, and we won’t hesitate to collaborate with her again in the future.”

Mélanie Ribeiro-Lopes, BF2i – Laboratoire Biologie Fonctionnelle, Insectes et Interactions, Lyon (France)
Naturally open to new things and curious by nature, I don’t just do scientific illustrations! I draw in ink and coloured pencils and paint in watercolour to create visuals that are fresh, organic, textured and rich in colour.
This type of creation is ideal for publications aimed at a children’s audience or those who like the charm of “handmade”.

Write to me about your project and we will discuss it together!

The Drawing Scientist, where science and art come into contact

L'illustratrice scientifique Veronica La Padula, neurobiologiste et illustratrice fondatrice de l'entreprise de communication et illustration scientifiques The Drawing Scientist

My name is Veronica La Padula and I’m the artist and scientist behind The Drawing Scientist.
With over 10 years’ experience in biomedical research, a PhD in neuroscience and a specialist in cell biology and microscopy, I’ve always been interested in the visual aspect of science. I created images for my scientific papers, posters and lectures, with the aim of making the information I wanted to convey accessible to all those who were unfamiliar with the subject I was dealing with.
With the aim of becoming more professional in scientific illustration and mastering graphic design software, I obtained a diploma in Computer Graphics and Web Design.
As both a scientist and a graphic designer, I’m on the borderline between the worlds of art and science.
I’ll enhance your projects by creating original, informative, interesting and polished scientific illustrations or by designing bespoke websites to raise awareness of your scientific research work.

my values

I strongly believe that disseminating scientific knowledge can improve people’s quality of life, by giving them the tools to observe objectively, reason critically and ask the right questions to explore the world.
Together, we can create and develop innovative ways of communicating science.

accuracy

Scientific rigour is reflected in my concern to respect the exactness of scientific data: I will not take artistic liberties just “to look good”.

culture

Cell biology, neuroscience and microscopy are my favourite fields, but my scientific culture in general will be at the service of your visual communication.

dialogue

I speak English, French and Italian, but above all the universal language of science.
I love learning from experts in a wide variety of scientific fields.
I’ll be asking you lots of questions to help develop the project.
